My be below image will make it clear
This is a case where the conversion to JPEG, and the associated color space for web use caused quite a bit to be "lost in translation"; The original NEF file, recorded in Adobe 98 color space, has the saturation levels similar to your "After" manipulation. I did notice the loss in the JPEG, I just did not make the effort to correct the JPEG so that it more closely resembled the original NEF file.
Very unique! If you slightly lightened the eye, would you see more reflection? Just a thought.
I agree, if the eye was just a tad bit lighter, it would be better. I did not perform any manipulation on the image, other than cropping, and converting it to JPEG for web publication.
