I just bought this little adapter and I did a big mistake.

I have a Windows Phone, Tablet and Notebook.

Do you know if there's any solution beside buying an Android, Iphone or a new camera with built in Wifi???

Thank you

Yes, that is a mistake, for certain. You certainly should have known, when you bought Windows-based mobile devices, that there is almost no support at all for them compared to Android or IOS, and that as a result, you would run into issues exactly like this. The “new camera with built in Wifi” probably won't support your devices, either.

How much did you pay for it? It seems that would determine how big a mistake you've made... I had a chance to buy several for $1 each a few months ago. I went to check on compatibility and when I returned about five minutes later, they were gone. Not buying them was my mistake...

it's not that a big mistake. I paid 40 USD for it, in Amazon, and here in Argentina it is sold at 86 USD.
1 USD each??? How can it be?

Well, the phone was a present and a big improvement compared to the piece of crap that I was handling, so I can't really complain.

Anyway my main interest was to connect the camera to PC, to have some kind of tethering.
A wifi adapter that cost 40 bucks and connect just to tablets and self phones it's nonsense.
Anyway I should have researched a bit more

As I wrote in the first post, I'm speaking about: "Mobile, tablet and notebook".

D7100, for example, with WU-1a can connect to PC through a software called: "Helicon Remote".
I'm pretty sure that any Nikon High End camera can connect to a PC via Lightroom for example.

So no WMU App in the Windows App Store?

Hi Don, I guess that there no App in Window Store... BUT

I found this:

airnef - testcams.com

Quoting from the site:

"This is the official homepage of Airnef, my open-source utility for downloading images and movies from your WiFi-equipped Nikon camera. Airnef runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It supports all Nikon cameras that have built-in WiFi interfaces, along with those using external Nikon WU-1a and WU-1b WiFi adapters. Airnef may also work with Nikon's WT-4A and WT-5A wireless adapters for the D3/D4/D8x, although I don't have any of these adapters on hand to test. Airnef supports Canon and Sony cameras as well, although Canon supplies its own excellent EOS Utility for wireless downloads. Airnef is licensed under GPL v3.

The Tablet it's actually an Asus Netbook that has detachable touch screen monitor that work as a tablet. Works well for internet and stuff. No complains. Of course I'm not doing any 3D modeling and rendering or Photo editing on that one. :)

Respect the mobile phones, Nokia works well for me.

But the main point here is Windows plataform. The most diffuse system in desktops and Laptops.

It's just insane that there's no Nikon wifi adapter that will communicate a Nikon camera with windows OS.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I installed Airnef Software in my notebook with windows 7.
I plugged the WU-1a adapter into my camera and turned it on.
Windows recognized and connected to the wifi net.
I lunched the soft that recognized the wifi adapter.
I settled it to "Real time download" and pressed the button: "Start download".
As soon as I shot the first pic it was automatically downloaded in few seconds.

AMAZING!!!!

EDIT: It works well also on my Asus 2 in 1 (netbook + tablet) with windows 8 installed.
