Looking for another Camera Backpack

I've been looking for a camera backpack to update my older backpacks. I was going to get the $74.99 Case Logic SLRC-206 SLR Camera and 15.4-Inch Laptop Backpack from Amazon.com.

Amazon.com: Case Logic SLRC-206 SLR Camera and 15.4-Inch Laptop Backpack (Black): Camera & Photo

Yesterday, I saw a Domke ProPack 418 backpack advertised from BH Photo for $99. The original price is $249.99.

Domke ProPack 418 Backpack 702-418 B&H Photo Video

It should be able to allow me put two DSLRs with grip and the 70-200mm f2.8 and 24-70mm f2.8 mounted when shooting an event. The rest should be able to accommodate two flash and two primes for low light shooting.

I'm starting to lean more towards Domke but I don't have any experience from either manufacturer. My current bags are lowepro sling AW350, a generic "Canon" bag, and Pelican rolling camara bag.

...a generic "Canon" bag...

Grab the torches and pitchforks!

I know you well enough to say that you're not going to be happy with that Case Logic bag. They're not exactly renowned for their build quality. You have some very nice equipment, and with a Case Logic bag, you might as well be putting that stuff in a paper sack.

I think the Tenba Shootout might be just what the doctor ordered.

I agree . . . Case Logic might not hold up over the long haul.

This is how I roll . . .

Amazon.com: Lowepro Fastpack 250 Camera/Laptop Backpack: LOWEPRO: Camera & Photo

T
he 350 might allow for 2 cameras.

I recently bought a Thinktank bag specifically designed for mirrorless cameras. Thinktank makes great bags. They also have large backpacks.

I have the lowepro 350 AW sling but it doesn't accommodate both cameras with both lenses attached. The other downside is that it is a sling and now I regretted getting a sling instead of a back pack.

Amazon.com: Lowepro SlingShot 350 AW -Black: Camera & Photo

I need something that can accommodate this but in a backpack form and that is within the $100 price range.

I think you're going to have to spend more than $100 for a good bag that holds that much equipment.

Sorry guys. That was my first camera bag when I first started. Always looking for the cheapest price as a newbie.

Oh boy. This has me thinking I need to upgrade my Tamrac to something that can hold what I carry plus a laptop.
This reminds me of my neighbor stopping by and giving me a sales add for harbor freight.

Don't think that's even possible. You might get lucky and find something on clearance, or maybe eBay. But any new bag that is decent and capable of holding that much gear is going to be double that price.

I am 90% sure my brother has the Domke bag. He brought it on a waterfall shooting excursion and you can indeed fit a LOT of stuff in there. Domke makes great bags and I've been looking for a good pack for my next outing with him as I've doubled my lens complement since last time.

I looked at the interior dimensions compared to the Lowepro 350AW and it seems like you gain a bit top to bottom but lose about an inch of depth, which could be important depending on the lenses you want to take. I may just jump on the Domke when B&H's ordering system comes back online as that's a great price for a bag that size and quality.

The price on that Domke backpack is great! ;) I purchased this Tamrac 5612 bag (not a backpack) to store my gear (I paid $149.95), but the Domke looks like it might be even larger. Price wise, I think it's terrific although I have never used that brand.

To give you an idea of how rugged Domke bags can be, my brother offered me one of his old ones in '86 when he opted for bigger one as his gear was getting more abundant. I used it as a gig bag when I was playing in a band from '87-91, throwing it in the trunks of cars and the back of vans with piles of other stuff. After that it remained my equipment bag for any gigs that I did and it's still carrying strings, pedals and other things today. Tough as nails.

You might want to consider an F150 with a padded bed!
Of course, you WILL need the stretch bed option.

That's really funny. LOL!

I've compared the prices from Amazon.com and their current price is around $200.00 for the same bag.

BH Photo is killing me. Why do they have to close on certain holidays? Anyway, I'll just wait until they open and buy the Domke backpack.

I've been going to B&H since before anyone knew what the internet was - including Al Gore. Back in the day it was this upstairs shop run by a group of Hasidic Jewish guys. It looked like the photographic equivalent of a diamond row shop. They're a bunch of good folks who are very devout, so the high holy days mean no work. None. I had a guy working for me who was Hasidic and if I needed him to work late on Friday night (the Sabbath) I needed to offer to drive him home because he wasn't allowed to drive himself. I found this out because the first time I asked him to work late I drove past him as he was walking the 12 miles between work and home because he wasn't allowed to ask anyone for assistance. I am not mocking the rules and regulations that surround their observances, btw. They may be a bit odd, but it's part of their community and I respect them incredibly for keeping them. I remember when NJ used to have laws (Blue Laws) that prevented businesses from operating on Sunday. A part of me misses that.

I've got a reminder set to notify me when their ordering system comes up again (sundown on Saturday night :) ).

Ok, I'm liking the look of this Domke bag from B&H too. Can we delete this thread now so we all be sure to get one when B&H re-opens?:friendly_wink:

Lets all get one before Glenn :p

It's been in my shopping cart for 2 days:cocksure:, but I don't think that reserves it for me:(. I'm hoping this ends my camera bag search for an 'everything' bag. Probably not. My wife just shakes her head at my pile of camera, tool, and gadget bags.
