Black Rapid Sport Strap

Looks like a model no longer on the BR site. While I have not used the extreme, it appears to be a wider SPORT model. I have the RS Sport and the RS Sport 2 (slim).
Great products.

Mine is the regular without the underarm part, but I love it. If you are not already familiar with the Black Rapid straps, they attach to a metal ring that you screw into the camera's tripod mount. The big disadvantage is that you cannot leave the quick-release plate attached to the camera if you are doing both handheld and tripod work, but for hiking all over Wyoming last April I loved the way the BR strap works. The camera stays down by your hip, but you can slide it up to your eye super fast. The cross-body style feels secure. The reason it's faster than a normal strap is that the ring slides loose on the strap. If you were to wear a normal camera strap across your body, the whole strap would have to slide around your shoulders every time you want to take a photo.

I bought this model which looks to be just about the same.

Amazon.com: Black Rapid RS-Sport 2 "Slim" Sling Camera Strap with BRAD, ConnectR-2 & FastenR-3: Camera & Photo

I like it but ultimatley I didn't like the attaching mechanism and IMO had too many swivel points on that attachment system. Strong design and the locking mechanism is a plus. I just didn't like the way it "hung" and moved around while walking. I still use it on the rare occasion that I cycle with my camera. Mostly because I use the "underarm" strap and a small mod to allow it to pin the camera to my back while I ride around.

If I use a strap for normal carry I have a Joby Ultrafit Sling. I really like the attachment mechanism and it doesn't have so many swivel points to allow the camera to jostle or flap around while moving. Also, I like how you can tighten or loosen the sling on the fly. I like the fact that it's a solid thick strap so I feel less like an American Gladiator reject (when wearing the Sport BR) ;)

They do make a fastener that will attach to certain Manfrotto QR plates. I have one and it works well. If you go this route you need to do your homework because I've seen reviews where the fastener and QR plate don't match up perfectly if you order the wrong one (or something to that effect).

Rick, I have the Standard and love it.. I can add the underarm stram as an option but as of yet have not seen a need for my work. More intense climbing/hiking it will be an asset.

Regarding the mount... superb, strong, hangs well and slide to the eye quick and easy. If you use the Tripod alot, they have already mentioned a couple options.. In addition, you can:
1. Get a Bosstail from Bostrap... it attached the regular strap mount of the D5100... Mine is set like that and the tripod mount is attached to the bottom of my 5100
I was able to position it well, and it comes top ready clean but not quite as smooth as the normal attachment

2. I am using the normal BR attachment on my D7100. It actually has rings so I believe I could connect the strap directly to one of those.

I have the Nikon Battery grip (spelled solid but heavy) mounted on the D7100 and I spent today walking around an old fort during a Revolutionary War Re-enactment. I was there from 10:00am until 3:30pm... The camera carried well and easy... and when I wanted a shot, it was quick to get it!

The Joby looks nice and I like the fact I can attach a QR plate to the optional attachment. Does it snug up as easy as they say? I want to avoid the camera dangling as I walk.

I use my BR straps with the Manfrotto plate all the time. BR sells a special fastener that works great :)

Yes, pretty much just like the Joby videos illustrate, cinching it up is a snap. It's another reason why I like them. If I'm on the move I cinch it up tight to my body otherwise I loosen it to around my waist. The BR strap adjustment is on the back shoulder so if you want to cinch it, it has to come off. The BR mechanism is designed to move freely up and down the strap without the strap having to move (up to "anchor" points that you adjust). With Joby the entire strap has to rotate in order to bring the camera up to shooting position. I actually prefer this because for me it keeps the camera more stable when moving. I'm an old school messenger bag wearer so I'm used to the sling action.

Probably the biggest reason I like Joby over BR is the number of pivot (or junction points). BR has more pivot points (and more "play"), some may prefer that but I found that it let my camera flop around more and actually squeek with the metal on metal.

Either way you should check them out at a store so you can get a feel for them.

Well I just bought the BlackRapid RS-Sport Extreme Sport DSLR Camera Strap Model Black Rapid RRS-1BB after reading this thread! Lol It was the under the arm strap that finally convinced me that this strap would likely work best for me. I don't like straps riding up against my neck, and the under the arm strap seems like a good solution. I'm not thrilled with using the tripod mount, but I can always make a different attachment to attach it to the strap mount on the left side of the camera if needed(which I may do). :)

Thanks for the info everybody! It was a big help! :D

I have it also Rick and love it, no sweaty neck in this triple digit heat, quick and easy to reach, I have mine on one of the side camera shoulders and my tripod quick release attached to the bottom.

I remember reading reviews/posts on these type of straps and did a quick google on them, $69.95, I said I am not paying that, but I soon changed my mind and it was money well spent.

This is what I got to add to my strap so the tripod mount is not used.

Joby makes a tripod plate that will work with the black rapid and allow you to use your tripod QR plate at the same time.
