Radar Love moved to off topic

You know, I like to think I am a pretty level headed guy. I believe in Live and Let Live. I like to play by the rules. I generally can't stand our politicians. And every once in a while, I get riled up.....

Coming home from a little photo shoot, I see this. A RADAR TRAP (and... a photo op! :) ). Now, I don't mind the police giving out tickets to speeders, they are after all, law breakers. However, I take massive offence when I perceive it as a cash grab by the city. The City of Toronto City Council is a den of thieves when it comes to money. Sooo many big plans, not enough tax payers to squeeze, all with their own pet peeve agenda.

Anyway, before I burst a blood vessel, check this out.....

A cop hiding behind a telephone poll with a RADAR GUN.

Notice the road!

Cop is having a field day pulling people over. Quota? This is a great spot. Noticed the road yet?

How about here.... This location for QUICK TICKETS is at the BOTTOM OF A HILL, a long, steep hill that goes over a bridge. This spot is the very bottom. The hill reverses behind me.

A RADAR TRAP AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Well not quite no where, but there are no schools, mostly apartment and condo complexes you don't see and a cemetery, again behind me.

These tactics and photo radar really get my dander up.

Why not... THE TOP OF THE HILL BEHIND ME? That would be a long hard day and probably classified as "work".

Venting over. :)

Re: Radar love

This really should be in "Off Topic: About everything else other than photography. No political, religious, or inflammatory posts please." Nice pictures though:)

Re: Radar love

Ah, maybe a MOD can move it. Haven't been around long enough to know all the rules yet. Sorry.

I thought this folder was the "Catch all". Didn't really consider this political or inflammatory. I would have classified it as Photojournalism with an opinion/commentary.

I am jsut saying that you don't know who is on this forum. Toronto Police Officers like Nikon cameras to, hint, hint ;) I like your idea of posting pics with a story along with them though. Thanks

Re: Radar love

And if they are?? I typically phone in and complain when I see this. I don't like this type of policing. I view it as a means to grab easy cash at the taxpayers expense. This isn't police work.

Their response, typically to me is, that it is. They claim it is why you have a "Brake" in your car.

If I cared who read it, I wouldn't have posted it! :)

I love Toronto Police, Fire, Paramedics etc. All great services, all great people working. However, this type of work sullies their reputation in my opinion.

A Bottom of the Hill Radar Trap! right!!!:strawberry: <---- This should be a RASPBERRY but I couldn't find one.

I should start a rant about EMOTICONS! ROTFL

:)

That does almost look like their hair is in a bun in the second shot.

When I lived in TX I was 10 miles south of a town of 3000 that sat right on the highway. Conveniently, the speed limit went from 70mph to 35 for the half mile stretch through the actual town limits and it was a notorious speed trap. On a Saturday, you'd usually see three police cars from the town and one from the county constable's office all within that half mile of highway. There were lots of complaints, but I think the income generated from the tickets won out. Particularly since all the locals knew about it and the cops were mostly getting people passing through.

I don't know how it is in Canada, but many local governments in the US right now are struggling to find ways to increase revenue and this, along with red-light cameras and speed cameras, are unfortunately a good way to do it.

A policeman's job is to protect and serve the citizenry not to harass the citizenry. I totally agree with you Art that kind of thing just pisses me off to no end too.

We have RED LIGHT CAMERAS. I love these. So many people run red lights and cause accidents that I think these are terrific.

We had Photo Radar. They set up a machine, no cop, set the speed limit and photo/ticket every car that goes by above that speed. This was so unpopular, they took it away.

And, they have the Radar cop as you see in the photos.

They also have UNWRITTEN QUOTAS. They are supposed to ticket so many people in a shift! There was a very large newspaper article about this. I find this ridiculous. What happens is exactly what you see in the photo. They go for the quick, easy ticket rather than grab the speeder in a school zone, the Mario Andretti on the highway, the drunk driver etc.

In Toronto, they have also stepped up PARKING TICKETS. Another easy Cash Grab! All part of the cash starved City Council looking for more money to spend. More and more, parkland around Toronto, especially on the Lake Front, is becoming accessible to only those who can afford to pay the parking! When I called to ask why, I was told by a Brain Washed attendant that it is to ensure emergency vehicles have access to the waterfront in case of an emergency, like a drowning. You figure this answer out, I am stumped.

I find policing like this distasteful and offensive.

I recently asked a customer who is a cop why some days I see three of them every block and writing tickets and then some days I don't see a single one of them...he said the days when they are not there it is because they are back at the station doing all their paperwork. Hey creep around at midnight and bust all the wild ones but don't frigging cop around at 8AM or 5PM writing us good citizens BS tickets! That is just not right...
