I'm not a fan of non-effect filters but I could see a use for this while near salt water and/or sand.

I wouldn't consider this until a number of people have a chance to use it on a regular basis. I had trouble finding a reasonably priced slim profile CP filter in 82mm so I chose one made by Sigma. After using the first one less than 1 year (and please keep in mind I don't shoot regularly), small spots began to appear where the coating flaked off. Sigma exchanged it for another one, but the same thing is happening. I don't do anything differently with it than I do with CP filters by Hoya and B+W which I own for other lenses. And for the record, my 24-70mm f/2.8 is made by Sigma but the lens coating has never been like what I've experienced on their 82mm CP filters.
