I was excited to find this site. My name is Joe. I live in North Carolina. Born & raised in Brooklyn. Made a wrong turn and wound up in Mayberry.. I been shooting photos since the early 1970's.. 35mm Miranda with 3 lenes. I still have all the stuff. I been using Point & Shoot camera's since the mid 1990's. They were just easier or I was lazier.. Anyway I got myself back into photograpghy again with a Nikon P80 a few years ago and now with the Nikon D5100.. I look forward to the Forum with all of you. Peace

Welcome to the Forum Joe,

naming Miranda brought back memories for me. I remember when they were racing for the top along with Pentax and Nikon (well Nikon was above but also above my budget at that time).

Enjoy your Nikon! Share your pics.

Hello Joe and welcome to Nikonites! Most of us have laid down the photography at one time or another in our history. Most important thing is you picked it back up.

Howdy and welcome from Winston-Salem!

Just so's you know, Mayberry ain't nowhere close to Hickory.

You want Mayberry, you need to head up to Mount Airy. :)

Hope this helps.

Yah, I know Hickory isn't Mayberry. I been uo to Mount Airy area. I seen Aunts Bees's dinner, Floyd's barber shop and the yearly parade..
But, A Brookyn NYC guy in the West side of North Carolina is petty close to the TV show... You all have swimmimg pools. My pool was a Fire Hydrant.

Hi Joe,

Welcome to Nikonites! Your story is similar to many. I was very heavily into photography and used a Pentax MX.

Over time, as I got busy and lazy, I went to an Olympus pocket camera that took nice images and I could simply slip it into a pocket with no fuss. For a while, I even stopped taking pictures. When I got the bug again, I went all out. Picked up some Nikon gear and it is like I never left. Better, in fact. I appreciate it more now.

The 5100 is a nice camera, you will enjoy it.
