I didn't see any images re: the baby in the flag, but... as a patriot (of the conservative nature), I have no more problem with this than I do our Olympic athletes draping the flag over their sweat covered bodies for a "victory lap" or any other celebration. It sounds as if the family, and the photographer, intended to show patriotism, respect and a family tie to the nation, and support thereof. The picture was taken by a veteran, who is married to an active serviceman, and was a shot of an active serviceman holding his child wrapped in a flag. It sounds like enough commitment and dedication to this country and it's defense were represented, at least to me. High horses may exit stage left.
Also, for point of record, in 1969, the Supreme Court even ruled that burning the same flag was protected under the First Amendment, even if it is in the form of protest or outcry against the nation. (Not saying that's right, btw. In fact, that very act gets my blood boiling. Just to set the record completely straight.) Even so, our nation's highest court says it's not illegal. With that in mind, what's so bad about a baby when compared to FLAMES? I also know quite a few members (and former members) of the armed forces, who have served their country with honor, that have no problem viewing or displaying pictures of busty models with the American flag draped over their shoulders, arms, midriffs, etc. What's the difference between that and this? To me, that would be considered much more disrespectful than the images that seem to be the center of this discussion, but I guess sex doesn't disgrace the flag as much as a naked baby?
Alright, I'm starting to get worked up here. There are some things that are definitely intended as a disrespect to the flag (and nation behind it), and I'm just the guy to get all hot and bothered over it, but some things aren't. 'Nuff said. There are a lot of BIGGER ISSUES out there that deserve national attention and action than a kid wrapped in a flag.
Oh, as an afterthought, if this gets you all hot and bothered, DO NOT go to Google and search for "baby wrapped in American flag". You might just die on the spot. And you sure as hell better avoid the subject of "American flag boudoir"...
*rambling rant off*
Can someone please put my soapbox away so nobody trips over it later?
