Moving to FX, one minor concern was the occasional need for a general use or walk-around lens. When I had my D300, the NIKKOR 18-200 filled this niche nicely. I had read reviews on Fred Miranda and SLR Gear and a discussion on Flickr regarding the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 IF. I did a little more research and thought it had a great focal length and was pretty darn small and light. The lens also has the ability to shoot macro. When I realized I could pick a used copy up for around US$100, I figured what the heck, why not?
I received the lens yesterday. Due to all of the snow and low dull light, I've only had an opportunity to try it out inside with high ISO (6400). I took a couple images of my wife's Valentine's Day flowers to play around with the macro feature. I've included a couple sample images below. The lens reminds me of the very underrated NIKKOR 18-70 that was included with the D70s.
For the price and convenience, I'm very happy to add this to my kit.
