Zack Arias Debunks the Full Frame / Crop Sensor Debate

If I had all those cameras I'd use the one that would get the job done. I suspect a lot of times it would be an APS-C or smaller. But there would be times that each of them could be the tool of choice.

Content is king. That being said, i want his stuffed squirrel. I am now off to the camera store to sell all my gear to get an 8 x 10 camera. I will then laugh at all of you for possessing dinky little D4s and D800s. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

His blog post is more insightful than the video IMHO: Crop or Crap :: Math or Moment · DEDPXL

He raises a lot of good points, especially when it comes to all the pointless stat comparisons on photography forums. While this forum doesn't suffer from this affliction as bad as others, there are definitely a few pixel peepers here. At the end of the day, who really gives a crap? Just shut up and take pictures.

This is all shown in this forum. We have a CoolPix shooter that always has great photos and we have had some D800 and D4 shooters that leave a lot to be desired. It is more about the shooter and the equipment. A really good shooter with really good equipment and really great post processing skills will win every time though. And those shooters are generally the ones that don't have cop an attitude and those shooters are my heroes.

The man cuffs his jeans AND wears his Ivy Cap backwards. If that doesn't totally substantiate his claims, well... I guess I'm just not sure what else to tell you.

The internet has made it easy for geeks to talk tech about their hobby and turn it into something more important than what the hobby is really all about. With cameras, it's not about pixel peeping, it's about making great pictures, and that's something you know when you see it and not when you "need to examine it at 100% crop". On guitar forums it's about whose pickups you use, what strings, or even what cable you plug in with and not how you play or that you even can play. But it's hard to talk about photographs on a forum because it either turns into a shredding or an ass-kissing event over time, so it's easier to talk sh*t about equipment and why one thing is better than the other. And hey, I'm as guilty as the next guy for over explaining something instead of just moving on.

I like Zach, I like his attitude, but I also think he sparks some of the same debate he likes to squash. Or at least talks a lot of apples and oranges.

And Browncoat is right, the blog post is better than the video. My only question coming out of that is why would David Burnett want a 4x5 shot of that guy's ass?! ;)

And dammit, you can be an artist and still love math!!

I admit to being a pixel peeper - sorry but I can't resist zooming in !

That said - I really enjoy being pleasantly surprised or even blown away by some pics they just make me smile or create some emotional response that speaks for itself.
A good pic is a good pic - full stop.

Lol. That was awesome. But... I want to slap him with that damn stick. I agree with him. Today you don't need full frame. Some of the new bodies coming out are amazing.
Technology is improving all the time. Will I now go APS-C fully? No. I like the feel of a big body in my hand. Feels somewhat weird to hold my D90. But the D3s does put out better images than the D90. So i'll keep using both each on shoots that require one or the other. What really makes me wonder is what will technology bring us in another 10 yrs.

The new Dx sensors really are amazing. After shooting with the V2, even Cx can produce amazing shots. Lenses and DoF is the the key for me. If Nikon came out with a f1.8 trinity equal to the Fx 2.8 set, I'd have stuck with Dx.
