WARNING: Nikon says problems may happen if you do this Z8 v3.0 firmware update with any 3rd party lens or lens adapter installed.

Tamron now says don't do it, Viltrox is issuing the same warning, and Megadap says don't update with their AF lens adapters installed.

I will go 1 further and just recommend you remove any lens or lens adapter as you do this. Why take the chance?

I updated with a Nikon Z lens attached. I then tried using some non Nikon extension tubes. I now have a large crater in my back yard.

OK, just kidding, it worked fine. Of course, I'm pretty sure the extension tubes don't have any electronics in them. They do have connections between the lens, in this case a Nikon, and the camera. Likely the camera doesn't know the tubes are there. It just sees the 105 macro on the other end.

It's not a warning against using these lenses and accessories. Just don't have them attached to the Z8 while updating to the new firmware.

That's the way I read it before updating, but I wanted to make sure that Nikon didn't pull an Apple trick and try and brick things when it detects a non OEM component attached.
