Found the problem with help from another forum.
That's exactly what happened. Didn't even know it was there.The button on the side of the viewfinder cycles through the different options for back screen on/off viewfinder on/off. It gets me every few months.
Its very useful for those long days you want to squeeze every bit of juice out of your batteries, just turn both the screens off. FWIW, the viewfinder screen uses more battery life than the screen on the back of the camera, but I've never really had an issue with the battery life except while taking a lot of videos.That's exactly what happened. Took mine on a trade, didn't get a manual. I will have one soon tho.
I have found that just about every feature has the "?" which does a good job explaining what that particular option does. It's like having the manual built into the camera.
