Z5 beep sounds not working

I recently bought a Z5 (like two weeks before they released the Z5II, sigh). I’ve been enjoying it but I have an incredibly annoying issue. No matter what I do I can’t seem to get the beep and shutter sounds to work. They did at first and at some point they just stopped for no reason that I can figure out. I’m really used to that noise to tell me that I focused properly.

I have checked to make sure that I am in AF-S mode, as I know it doesn’t work in AF-C. Shooting mode is auto photo. Silent mode is off. I have tried changing the beep settings to on, and also off touchscreen only. I have updated my firmware, and I have reset everything to factory default. I’ve Googled and hunted and checked the manual. Please can someone tell me what the hell I’m missing??

I see a beep volume menu and pitch setting right below the on/off option. Possible volume is at minimum?

Unfortunately no, I’ve tried it at every volume level. And the beep does sound when I use the touchscreen, just not when I shoot.
