Yellowstone - February 2014

Terrific capture. Had to check the EXIF to see what you were using to shoot this. Do you have a TC on the 70-200mm? If not, even when I consider the cropped sensor and additional post cropping it's got to be wild to have something like that headed at you. Well done. I suspect it's going to be tough to turn in that lens at the end of the trip (or am I not remembering correctly and you didn't rent it?).

No TC on that shot. And I can't claim nerves of steel. It was fear of wife who said, ”you will stand there and get that shot or you will have more to fear than getting trampled by a buffalo when I get through with you!” So I stood there.

It will be very hard to return the lens.

Sadly, today was the last day for MoabLady and myself to run around the park before coming home. If anyone wants to go to Yellowstone to see the animals you must go in the winter. If you want to go and see all the thermal features then go in the summer. Either way, Yellostone is well worth the trip. Additionally, if anyone does decide to head out in winter feel free to contact me and I will share all that I learned on this trip. With no further ado, pictures from our final day.

Well you guys sure had great shots done there and I'm sure you'll never forget this outing. Great captures that certainly deserve applauds.

Excellent shots, I think you just convinced me I need a Yellowstone trip in May ;)

If you want to shoot animals then you need to go later in the northern winter months. February is an outstanding month.

If you want to shoot thermals, and probably not see much in the way of animals beyond buffalo then you go in the northern months summer.

Some of us can only go in the summer. My wife can not get off work in the winter months. We are planning a trip to Yellowstone in June.

Pack your patience. Any time there is an animal spotted the road becomes a parking lot. A very slow long parking lot.

LOL...Been There Done That. Called a BearJam. Was worth it though. Shouldn't have any issues seeing Bison and Elk. We saw tons of both of them. We also saw some Grizzly and Black Bear, and a coyote. Didn't see Moose, wolves, or Bighorn though. All in all, it was an awesome summer trip though. I can see Winter being better, but not sure I could handle the weather.

It was very cold, but we were dressed for it and had the proper gear with us for the temperatures that even my wife enjoyed the temps. But yes, it is cold!
