Hello there

Day 115

Out with some of the people I'm in class with.

This was my fellow photography loving class mate who hit the shutter (double exposure done in camera), I just made the settings. Funny

Day 116, lure coursing. I'm a bit unsatisfied.. not sure if its me or if my 70-200mm are pretty soft. I've been thinking that for a while but on several images from today, it looked like it got worse. Guess I should finally try to figure out if I can adjust it.......

Looks pretty good from here but I would have to see it on a large monitor to be sure. How about if you bump up to f5.6?v

I did that on severals but I wanted to blur the background out as much as possible.. Have I mentioned I hate busy backgrounds? Thats why I don't want to do agility pictures.

Mai, I finally had time to scroll through your thread. Wow, I am always amazed at your wonderful photography. Keep it going. Good luck on the book, I am officially pre-ordering a copy. Also, good luck with the Ice Light. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Can't argue with that. I think you did well because I suspect you tackled a tough subject. I do not like to shoot moving objects and I even yell at flowers when they sway in the wind.

Hahaha. I love running dogs but honestly thought I was better catching them - maybe I am just getting to used to primes, the IQ are so much better. Okay don't get me wrong, I don't hate the previous pictures, I just think a lot of them was to soft.. I had the sun in the back and also used the sun cap. Maybe VR should have been off, since I was sitting/lying pretty steady?

No Mai, I would be reluctant to turn off vr in that circumstance. A closer look at the series does reveal a distracting background in No. 2, 5, and 6. Does your software show the focus point of each shot and is each shot focused exactly where you wanted it? The bokeh in the remainder of the series does do exactly what you want.

Were you panning (I assume) or were these ambush shots?

No Mai, I would be reluctant to turn off vr in that circumstance. A closer look at the series does reveal a distracting background in No. 2, 5, and 6. Does your software show the focus point of each shot and is each shot focused exactly where you wanted it? The bokeh in the remainder of the series does do exactly what you want.

That's due to the distance.. I moved around to try to figure out where the best place would be to shoot from. I still don't know And I wish I had a longer zoom. Maybe 300mm - but with the ability to focus semi-close.

My software doesn't show it but I could see it on camera screen and it looked like I hit the dog but it still looked soft. But again, maybe I shouldn't compare with primes.

Both. Dogs running towards me and panning when they ran around the "corner"..

Great shots Mai. You think the race shots are soft but I feel you really caught the action and the blurred background really increases the feeling of speed and drama. I would be over the moon if I had managed to capture them.

You should have been there too! That would have been great It's a very nice place to practice as the dogs really only can run in 1 direction. Some ran close, others spread out more.

And you are right. I do like these shots, sometimes I get way to fixated on technique and could have, would have, should have. Now I tried it and learned a lot and hope to go again someday!

Day 117, the rhododendron at bloom Next weekend they say we might have some snow... that seems a bit wrong.

One more dog race - got more and almost done, but.. mañana
They are FAST.

That last dog race shot is really cool. Love how you can see the dust and grit flying up from their feet even after they have gone. That's FAST alright
