As the title just bought a 70-200 F4 (very impressed) and wondered if the Tc-17EII is a good choice for that extra reach when travelling/on holiday.. perhaps for the odd wildlife shot etc?
I use the Nikon TC-20EII Teleconverter with my 70-200 f4. It works well. I think I've heard that Nikon is discontinuing the TC-17EII, so you better hurry and get it.

Whenever you use a TC especially the 1.7 and 2x, will result in having higher aperture and some degradation in image quality. The 1.4x would be the most that I would put on but that is just me. I prefer using my lens naked.
