That's one of many reasons why i don't buy from the e-bays of the world.
If i buy it has to have a one year warranty. and from fellow people you won't get a warranty.

I'll be on the "buyer doing their own research" bandwagon. When I was buying my 600, seller had no idea whether it had oil spots or not (aka that they only show up at low apertures) and I didn't care since I was well aware of the possibility and only bought one after Nikon's advisory came out.

Same with my 70-200 VR1- possible FX vignetting and softer corners were the commonly known downsides, but I got it anyway because I did my homework and weighed my options.

If a friend/one of you guys was considering this particular option, then I'd give them a heads up.
