Mama owl had just brought something for the kids to eat 20-30 minutes before sunrise. It was still fairly dark, as you can tell by the size the the owl's pupils. (Exposure was 1/60th, f/5.6 at 11,400 ISO.) It's fun to see these birds when they are active in the semi-darkness, even if it is really hard to get good pictures. Topaz DeNoise certainly helped this file!

500mm lens on a D500 and only a slight crop. 10 meters is a wild guess.

5.62 meters according to the EXIF.

How do you get this number in EXIF? I couldn't find it in my Exif Viewer. Could you check my image posted above for the focusing distance? Thanks

It doesn't show up in yours, Blackstar. It doesn't show up in mine either. I'm not sure why. I have the focus area turned on in playback in my camera. I'm using xlfr as an add on to Firefox. I checked properties on a recent file of mine using file explorer, and the focus distance is listed, but entry is blank. I'm using a Z5, and you are using a Z6, and Woody a D500. I looked at another D500 shot from someone else and it didn't have focus distance.
