I've found this works best for wildlife when I shoot, too.

Well, that varies quite a lot. The Towhee above was probably 10 meters or so, I'd guess. I'm really bad at estimating distance, though.

axwings are very rare in our area, but we have had big flocks of them this winter. I finally got 3 minutes with a group before they flew away.
