I've never seen a Marmot right by our cabin. Fun treat yesterday morning.

Great dragonfly image.

I notice you shot this with a long tele. I like the working distance that provides, and the really nice out of focus backgrounds, but....... I've had focus issues. Perhaps it's because I'm used to shooting macro with a 105 and flash, giving me the flexibility of using smaller apertures like F16 or smaller. With the long tele, it's available light, and sometimes handheld, or with the dragonfly swaying in the wind, and so I am forced to use larger apertures, or extremely high ISOs. Of course, I see you used F11. You must have taken this in full sun with a shutter speed roughly half your ISO and one stop down from F16. Too many robbing Peter to pay Paul situations in photography.

Shift change. Mom's headed to the nest, Dad is up off the eggs and headed to the shoreline to find yummy bugs to eat.

All the shots of your Avocets are simply amazing! It's very rare to see any of them around here. Occasionally, one may be spotted down near the Falls of the Ohio but not very often.
Thanks, Robin. We see Avocet each year in a few ponds or lakes with nice, shallow shorelines. They sure have a hard time raising offspring what with being ground brooders and the constantly changing water levels in our local lakes and ponds. Plenty of predators, too, of course. Having four survive to this stage is the best I have seen.
