Wireless Camera Control

Just got my wireless working. I can control just about every camera setting, has live view and the range is very good. I took it to the other end of the house (50 ft +/-) and it worked just fine. Even took it outside and even through a window I was able to fire off a shot.

My setup uses a TP-Link MR3040 Ver2 wireless portable router ($30.25 Amazon Prime free shipping)

Flashed the firmware with in the router with OpenWrt Attitude Adjustment 12.09.1 / LuCI 0.11 Branch (0.11+svn9951) (Free)

Installed QDSLR Dashboard (Free) on my Samsung Galaxy S5, for the D800 and D810 you need the latest version, I am using version V2.7

It takes a little bit of time to reflash the modem and install the app but well worth it.

Where else can you get reliable wireless control with live view for $30.25, must be the deal of the day. Now to try and get it running on my tablet.

The setup works well, funny, the camranger uses the same TP 2000 mah battery as the portabe router, makes me think hmmmmmm, the little wifi with the camranger even looks the same as the TP-Link MR3040, another hmmmmmmm.

1/10 the price of a camranger.

It just takes a little googling, there are also some youtube videos on the setup. The best place to begin is the qdslrdashboard site.

Here are some pics of it hooked up to the D810, worked the same with the D800. Uses the usb cable that comes with the cameras. You can also give the app a try by using it tether via usb (you will probably need a usb female to micro usb, about five bucks) and see if you like the app.

Wait there's a portable router you can get so you can have Wifi anywhere? (Yes this is what I'm taking out of the OP's post. lol)

Yeah, it's the same stuff. I did some research last year on this and got into some hackers that were doing this with various other things. Seems to be same hardware just a different label.

I still have it down as something to explore, but went with the wireless unit from Nikon, which I don't use that often but in the end was more expensive then the route you took.

Live and learn I guess.

Welł, after seeing the screen shot I may just play with it. I need to find the same setup but for iPhone. Time to find those links tomorrow. It's too cheap not to do it.

Well, I just started the process. Downloaded the app, reading the directions and will order TP tomorrow.

Thanks for posting this, I had forgotten about it because I was waiting on the iPad version which came out last Sept. Guess I forgot to keep checking on it.

Yup ... being a CamRanger owner, I can confirm the TPLink adapter looks to be the exact same hardware as what CamRanger relabeled. Sometimes it makes more sense to wait on a purchase like Kevin did. :)

Update, just got it configured ( the TP link that is), already had the software on my IPad mini. Took a bit get a grasp on the settings, how to connect, but after playing with it all I can say money well spent. Hope to get to play with it this weekend, but so far very impressed with the software and device.

Took some shots playing around with it while in LV on the Ipad. It shows you the shot, I shoot RAW, you click on it and it shows you the Histogram. You can click on ISO in the bottom and change the ISO on the fly, well any setting for that fact works very well. You can delete pic's from the card, view pics from the card and even movies.

Will test the range this weekend I hope.
