Today, while browsing a semi-local photo web site, I saw some interesting images posted. What caught my attention was that a photo was supposed to have been taken in Sep. in an area that averages that time of year of probably 90-100° F The image was hills covered in snow. Snow covered in 90+° F temps. Ya right. Then I noticed that the photo was copyrighted. Upon further investigation, all photos posted by the individual were copyrighted by different people (clearly noted on the photo). I notified the site and all photos were removed until a more thorough investigation was completed.

Why would someone post photos as their own AND leave a copyright notice in the photo? I would like to think that they did not understand that the site is for photos that you as an individual take and not just a place to post neat pictures. :rolleyes: This site is also for posting photos of the area and some that the individual posted were from other continents. :rolleyes: Maybe he/she needs a new "Flash Attachment". LOL

I'm still scratching my head in puzzlement. :confused: :confused:

There was a guy on here a couple of years ago doing the same thing, his forum name was Madcapmagishion. He was stealing photos from here and posting on other sites, as well as posting photos here that he stole from other sites. He ended up getting caught out and banned.
Wouldnt be surprised if its the same guy.

There is free service that I suggest everyone take advantage of https://www.lenstag.com It keeps a good record of all your gear incluing serial neumbers and a photo of the serial number which is a great idea. BUT one of the neat things is that it does searches of the internet for your photos by the serial number of the camera. Another good reason to make sure your EXIF data is preserved correctly.

If your body is stolen, and the scum-bag crook posts images on the 'net, you may get a notice about where it's been posted. Maybe you can track down the theivin' bastid from there.

I think sparky is correct about tracing photographs. Also this is a great way to verify that equipment is yours since the list and serial numbers and photos of the serial numbers are on file. Make it easy to report all your gear to the cops if it is stolen. It is always right there in your phone.

I recall reading an article somewhere on the net where someone had their stuff stolen. The thief never bothered to change or delete the rightful owners copyright information and even cell phone number from the camera and posted images he took with his ill-gotten booty.

Didn't take the law too long to find the stupid SOB.
