One of my photography friends postd a picture of a new camara being announced and
issued the lament of ... oh,,, don't you hate just buying a camera,, and a newer model
coming out,,


and,,,well,,, actually no,,, cameras have started to merge in quality,, and it really comes
down to whehter or not your current camera meets your needs,.

ok,, maybe it is my D800,, I love this camera, and the features and buttons are almost
perfect for me..

Maybe it helps, that it is hard to see how long until any real significant growth will
happen. but at least in the shortrun,, most likley not needed.

I agree with you, almost any modern and nearly modern camera body is much more capable of great pictures than the person behind the viewfinder, at least in my case this is true.
