darn darn darn,, I went back to get something from the trunk, and I must have unlocked the door by accident, I had left my 80-400 in the car,, and behold,, in the morning,, poof,,, not lens, didn't even know until couple of hours later,,

Now that is a weird feeling,, like how could it be gone,, This was the first serious use I had of the lens, I did get some nice shots in Death Valley, before it got snitched.

Is it super clear, not bad,, enough that I will have to replace it,, no,, it is not insured. so,, a writeoff.

I had left it behind in the car because it was heavy, and I did not feel like lugging to the hotel rooom,, well, that was dumb. lesson learned. First time I have ever been stolen from.

Bugger mate that totally sucks... I love my 80-400 so I can imagine how upset you would be. Plus the thought of some low life going through your car and rifling through everything is not a good feeling.

I once had a lot of gear stolen from my home due to a break in and that was not good, luckily everything was insured. Luckily for me though I had just bought a 60K car and my girl friend at the time took that to work as I was away and mine was in front of hers, well her car was stolen and rode off. If it had of been mine my insurance would not have covered it all as it was only a few days old.

I also have just read regarding airlines that people have been rifling through others bags while flying and stealing jewelry and cash etc so this is another time to be wary.

You have my deepest sympathies mate, its horrible, I had a couple of cheap tripods nicked from the back of my wife's car, smash and grab. they had been in there for months and some toe rag broke the rear window to get in. I wouldn't have minded but one was a star tripod (about £35) and a small very lightweight Manfrotto (about £45) the manfrotto was missing its quick release plate so its worth nothing. Make you want to track them down and nail their bits to a wall.

well, great news, in my dowsy state, I must have brought it to the hotel and left it, and honest staff, called me, and I picked it up,, so,, back in my hands.

Laughs,, but not before I had ebayed another copy,, so, now I have two copies of this wonderful lens, the new one should be here tomorrow.

I think I might bring it to my local pro shop for some type of trade. or maybe, sell it. I'll have to compare with my current one, but, my current one is wonderful lens. So, now this one is surplus.
