Whiskeyman's Shot-A-Day 2014

Feb 12, Day 43, Shot 43

Just took this in a real hurry due to time running out for today.

Can I state how much I dislike MS Internet Explorer 11 here?

WM

I used to only us IE but it started going downhill so several years ago I moved to FireFox and it was light years better. Recently it started breaking my addons with every update so I changed to Chrome. Chrome is worth changing to. It is a little hard to get used to the look but it is so much faster. I had to check my web site today on all the browsers and on mobile and IE and Firefox just don't work near as good.

Ok, so having lots of family in town puts photography on the back burner, so what to photograph at 10:45 PM? Well, duh!!! As I sat down to dessert, a slice of the "bestest" cake ever, it was staring me in the face. Take a shot of your dessert!! So I did, and as soon as this is posted and I pour a glass of milk, I'll perform a great magic feat: making it disappear! :D

The cake is my Mom's scratch yellow cake with infused chocolate fudge icing, where when she ices each of the three layers, she pokes holes into the top of the layer so that the hot, fudge icing goes deep into each layer.

You can hate me for how good it is and that I'm not sharing it here. Sorry, but it loses its taste when it travels over the net. If I can get the recipe from her, I'll be happy to share it.

Now that looks tasty!

That would go great with my coffee!

Very tasty last night, and another piece is even better for breakfast this morning... with coffee! :)

I just found out that the original recipe is from The White House Cookbook, 1910 edition. She makes a few substitutions, but it is mostly the same.

I asked her about the recipe and she told me she can't remember without making it, so we may be making another one when the ladies return from their outing to a quilt show. I'll write it down if we do.

They had a SB-71 at the smithsonian some years ago. Awesome jet. I only wish I had a camera that was working that day. Nice images.

Nice - you managed to do what radar can't!

They were absolutely lovely to see flying, but that was a rare event that I only witnessed a few times. And each time was fleeting. They were home at Beale AFB in California at the end of their service, and we would meet a Sled (SR-71) pilot every so often. We were in awe of them back then; I still am.

Never had the pleasure of seeing one flying. Wish I could have.

Thank you, Don and Lawrence.

It was an absolute fluke that I found either. Both shots were taken in Mossy Head, Florida. I had pulled over to try to photograph a train, but I missed it. When the train passed, I saw the house beyond the tracks, so I turned around and found the side street that the house was on. I didn't get out of the car to photograph the house since it was getting dark and I'm a stranger there. After four shots of the house, I left and as I was crossing back over the tracks on Mossy Head 2nd Street, noticed the sunset down the tracks. The train had just passed, so I looked both ways and seeing it clear, stepped out and tried to center the tracks and shot several times.

The sun's position should get better over the next several days, perfect on Wednesday in that it should set exactly down the middle of the tracks. I may go back to shoot this again.

Agree totally with Don and I am very partial to the old house. Imagine the stories it could tell.

I'd like to know how long the satellite dish was actually used. I'm sure they were told to leave the dish by the provider, so that the next occupant would get nudged to use that particular service. I think they be waiting a long time for their next customer from that address!!
