Which lens Sigma 17-50mm/f2.8 or Nikon 24-70mm/f2.8

The Nikon 24-70mm is the sharpest medium range zoom lens that I have tried. Great choice in my opinion.

@ Bukitmah - I had that zoom lens before and it is a decent zoom lens for DX. It is a little noisy, not as sharp and has a slower focusing system (hunts) especially if the area is too dark. On the upside, it is cheaper and lighter than the Nikon 24-70mm.

Now that I have had my 24-70mm for a little while I must say WOW! I absolutely LOVE this lens and can't live without it! This is my main lens and it stays on my camera all the time. It only comes off for a specific reason. I hate the high price tag but the quality is amazing.

Which camera are you shooting with? (hint: fill out the equipment section a bit more in your profile. :))

same here. my 24-70 is on my d7000 also. I'll take it off to put my 50 on here and there but it's my "go to lens". congrats on your pick up.

At last I have the opportunity to try out this Tamron 17-50 mm f2.8 lens.

I know I'm getting into this thread really late but I have the D7000 and I just put the D800 on pre-order. I own a Nikkor 50mm F/1.4D that is designed as an FX lens. I've just ordered the 24-70mm F/2.8 as my goto lens for the new D800. I think those two lenses will allow for some awesomely sharp photos. I find myself shooting a lot of wildlife in the past two years and worry about the moderate focal length of the 24-70. With my D7000 I have an 18-200mm VRII, an 85mm F/3.5 VRII Micro and a fantastic Tokina 11-16mm F/2.8. I may be able to pick my poison if I know my shooting for the day. I might just pack both bodies with the 18-200mm aboard the D7000 and the 24-70mm on the D800. It certainly will be a beautiful marriage of high tech capabilities. :)
