What's your second camera?

It's always a struggle. I have a 1/2 dozen cameras... Panasonic LX5, Nikon F4s, Yashika Electro GSN, Nikon D200, Nikon D300, and Nikon D600... and then I have to struggle thru which lens I'm gonna carry...

Only a half dozen? I have D700, D300, FTn, F2, F4E, FA, FE2, Nikkormat FT3, Nikonos V, Rolleiflex TLR 6x6 and a Hasselblad 500CM, about 23 Nikkors and 5 Carl Zeiss lenses for the Hassy. Last weekend I went out shooting nature photography with 60 pounds worth of gear on my back! That stuff gets heavier with every passing year!

As my signature says....my walk around camera is the Sony full frame a7. I love the size of it and the pictures are as good as any. My second camera will be my D500, although I'll be using it a lot in the near future. I plan on using it more for fast action sequences, like birding. I would recommend you give Adorama a call and ask for a used a7II, with IBIS. I almost bought it before deciding on the D500.

My second camera, is my first DSLR - a refurbished Nikon D60. I reach for it without hesitation. And yes, I consider my iPhone to be in my lineup.

I still have my 35mm SLR, a Pentax ME. But it's pretty much a decoration around here.

As most of us here, my D750 is the main workhorse. But there are situations when I want to leave the D750 home and take a smaller camera with me, in this case the Coolpix A.
Coolpix A has APS-C sensor, no AA filter, and a good fixed lens optimized for that particular camera. I'm happy with its IQ but I don't like the AF and sometimes I wish that it had a zoom lens.
I'd been waiting for the Nikon DL and was disappointed when Nikon decided to cancel. At the moment nobody knows what Nikon will do regarding the compact or mirrorless cameras. That's why I'm thinking about the Fuji X-T20 with the decent kit lens 18-55 f/2.8-4 as the second camera, but it's not very convenient (and also expensive) to have two different systems.
I'd like to know if you have a second camera and happy with it or if you're planning to buy one? Thanks.
My main camera is a d600, but I also have a d3400 as well. The 3400 comes in very handy for those times when I need an aps-c sensor for the crop factor. It's also very small, light and portable for those times when I don't really want to be carrying around the full load of gear. Compatible with all my current lenses so don't have to invest in a 2nd system

I'm not up to the level that all you guys are, that's for sure. I only have the D750. I've been looking around for a number of years now for something smaller (pocket-worthy), preferably weather sealed, that I can take with me skiing, kayaking, biking, etc. Still waiting. In the meantime, if I think I might want to take a picture when I go out, then the D750 comes along. Yes, I have an iphone, but I will not use it to take pictures-I'd rather lug the D750 and come away with pictures that I actually like. I bought the girl an RX100 when they first came out & am still impressed with the quality in good light. Maybe I'll get myself the latest version of that and call it good, but I'll probably just keep waiting instead.

I'm in the same boat save the weather-sealed. I want a carry-everywhere-camera with good IQ, 1" sensor is the minimum, APS-C is better. I wonder a camera with features like the Sony RX100 V but with APS-C sensor would be too big to be pocketable?

Well, there is the RX1, so an APS-C version is certainly possible. Not sure if it would have much of a zoom range, if any. I'd be all for the RX1 if it was 1/3 the price it is now. Maybe Nikon might deliver...at some point. Someone has to come out with a nice APS, fixed lens cam.

Sony RX1 is 4-yr-old camera and it still costs an arm and a leg ($2800). I'd rather buy Fuji X-T20 with 18-55f/2.8-4 for $1200.
I hope that there'll be Coolpix A M2 this year with the latest features and a fixed zoom 18-55 for around $1000.

I have a D5000 that stays in the car. It's a bit of an experiment to see how it will handle being in a car in Texas 24hrs a day. I have about 200 bucks invested in the body and lens.

If I actually pack up to go shoot, I take the D750 and a D7100.

Short postscript to this thread.

Following an unfortunate incident in a train toilet involving my clumsiness and gravity, the Canon S90 is now retired.

I spent a week researching about a dozen alternatives and, contrary to my stated intention in a previous post, our family / go everywhere / second camera is now the Panasonic LX15 aka LX10 (depending on where you are in the world).

I think it has too many glaring (stupid) faults to consider it a serious camera but as a quality family camera it's a great all rounder.

I do not really have a second camera. I have the D700 and the D7200. If I go out I usually have both with me. I really like them both. I have an S7 phone, but I rarely if ever use it.

Lately, the D700 has been getting the most use as I try to get used to it.

Sorry to hear about the S90. I've had mine for about 9 years and it's still DRY! :)
Yep, mine was coming up to 7 years of service. Still can't believe I was so clumsy. It was the first time I *wanted* to hear a camera hit the floor. The LX15/10 is working out fine though.:D
