In the last 4 years I have been out in the streets of
Portland Maine almost every weekend excepting
when sick. This photo, I believe is the best I have
taken because it captures, in an unposed situation
of a little girl reaching to pet a very large horse,
with a grizzled old-timer nearby. The colors
really popped on this shot to my surprise, when
I uploaded the days' shots into the computer.

I struggled between about 5 shots to post, not because of quality, but rather memories. My first love is landscapes followed by trains and of course, HDR processing. The shot I picked included all those elements along with research, planning and my most scarce resource, luck. I found this spot through a Facebook group and decided to plan a road-trip to the Adirondacks including a detour to this location. I planned everything, determining the direction of the shot and best time of day to arrive. The fall colors where reaching their peak so I headed out on the best day weather wise. I arrived early in the morning, sun to the left as I planned and fired away. Unfortunately the sky was cloudless and the lighting harsh, wasn't too happy with the outcome. I continued on to Old Forge where I got some great shots of another objective, a church on Forth Lake from the water.

I decided to stop by this spot on my way back and was pleasantly surprised by the clouds and lighting. I fired away and was pleased, not perfect but I was happy. This would also become one of my last good shots before I changed systems. It's amazing when you look back at your work how many fond memories pop up; realizing technical quality isn't everything.

It took me a while to decide which shot was my best of 2014.
Through the year I felt that I grew so much with my ability, skill, and knowledge of photography. I earned many awards with my shots this year. I am most happy with winning the Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk for Northern Utah, and considered using that shot.
However, as I was contemplating my best photograph, and reading everyone else's posts, I decided that I would choose the shot that I remember the most. I remember this shot because it has an emotional connection for me.
My husband has always loved going to Spirit Lake in The Uintah Mountains in the summer, and I always TRIED to go with him and enjoy the experience. But, I'm not so much of a camper person. We would always "Rough It" with tents when we went to Spirit Lake, which was tough for me.
Finally, this summer we purchased an RV. Wow, what a difference the conveniences make to this girly, girl. We took our new RV to Spirit Lake in July and stayed a week. I LOVED every minute of our "camping trip".
Part of the fun was finding unique things to shoot with my camera. I got some great shots of a moose.. I got some fabulous shots of a bird in flight catching a fish from the lake. I tried to get a shot of the Milky Way, which didn't turn out well, but the experience was great.
If Moab Man and Moab Lady hadn't been so generous, this shot would have not happened. Just before we left for the Lake, my D5100 came up with an error message that I couldn't resolve. Moab Man and Moab Lady not only gave me one of their camera's, but got a lens for me to use also. Bless Them!!!
The morning that we were packing up to leave, (I didn't want to go home), I walked down to the lake with my camera. While I was thinking about what a wonderful experience Spirit Lake had been this year, I shot this photograph. Not only does this shot "feel" good to me because of the memories, but I am really happy with the content, composition, and colors. Seeing this photograph will always remind me of the exceptional venture. This is even one of the only photo's that I have printed to put on my wall, I like it that much.
