What lens(s) do you most regret getting rid of?

There are times I really regret getting rid of my 500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor. There seems to be little middle ground with this lens, you either loved it or hated it. I was definitely amongst the former. It was very sharp and very compact for its size and had zero CA and worked quite well with a TC-14B. The fixed f/8 aperture did not really bother me at all. It just took up so much room in my gear bag that I just could not justify keeping it any more and did not want it to just be a shelf sitter. But it did produce some really great images, if you didn't mind "doughnut" out of focus specular highlights!

I miss my first 105mm lens an ai version, as it had a very good feel and took one of my favorite photos. But I bought a newer version, and a friend was looking for a 105mm.

I know the feeling! I loved my 105m f/2.5 and used it for many years but once I got the 105mm f/1.8 and did side by side comparisons, I found the f1.8 equaled or usually surpassed it at every aperture. I do sometimes miss the compactness of that f/2.5 though!

I sold two pre-DSLR era Nikkor 35mm lenses, only of my Dad's from the 70s (factory converted to Ai) and one of mine (a Series E from the 80s) to raise money to help buy my D5100. At the time I didn't know that either of these lenses could have been used with my DX-format camera. I still have (and love) my D5100, but I wish I'd kept my Dad's lens.
