What is your favourite focus mode?

[B…]but hardly any posters in this thread are using it![/B]

Hello 12blackgt!

These 51 focus points plus the P mode plus… (whatever bells and whistles) are
also available in my D3S, D3X,and D800E!

The purpose is to offer the maximum chance to any one, who comes up with
the money and has no idea about photography, to take good pictures. If the
manufacturers are tabbing on that, it's because there are zzzzillions of them
casual shooters out there… and they mean big money!

This type of shooters are rarely to be seen on forums like this one simply for
these two reasons:

1. They would show up with dream gear that they don't understand… they would
not be "recognized" as OWNERS but as no photo bugs! Bad for their wealthy egos!

2. Once your reach a forum like this, understanding your gear is the first thing
to do… and, from one thing to the other, the users will prefer to make educated
decision instead of letting the camera do all the work!

Knowledge is power! …we know that. The nikonites have, or tend to, more
knowledge! The more knowledge, the less those bells and whistles are used and
consequently, irrelevant!

Who wants to loose fun time on irrelevancies!

Have a good day…

how do you get ideas like that? It sounds so right anyway!

Does anybody else find it odd that the 51 focus points are a heavily touted/advertised feature of the D7100, but hardly any posters in this thread are using it?

I don't have a D7100 (I have a D600 and a D90), but if I did, I would absolutely make use of those focus points! On my D600, I have 39 focus points which tend to be closer to the center of the image. Generally I use one single focus point which I position smack-dab in the center of the viewfinder--I focus with it then recompose the image.

However, there are times when I want to take a succession of photos, and having to focus and recompose the image takes more time than I want. In those instances, I move that little bugger around. Sometimes I position the focus point on the far right; other times I might have it on the bottom row as far left as it can go. In other words, I make use of all the focus points--just not all at the same time because I prefer a single point! ;) So yes, I would make use of all 51 if I had the option. :)

again i will be the hero that save everyone :) (just kidding ... there is no one to save :) let me tell you something if you are using D9 d21 d51 there is only one dot on the screen but if you read the manual (RTFM) you can see that the whole other 50 dots are using for focus tracking and also for measurement

That's why I always use the thumb button AF-L on my D700 instead of shutter half press.

I use AF-C, Single point most of the time and AF-Lock assigned to AE-L/AF-L button.

Any of the 51 focus points can be used in single point mode by using the Multi selector.

The problem (at least for me with my limited experience) with using auto with all 51 points is it is difficult to control which one is focusing.

The 9, 21 focal groups are good for tracking moving objects, 3-d mode.
