This is some really old tool we found at my father's place. The end with the pincher slides in and out of the handle. the handle right next to the pinture slides back and forth to open and close the pincher. We have no idea what this is has anyone seen this tool before?

The hole next to the handle at the bottom of the picture is to remove the pin for the sliding pincher end.

It's a nail puller. The jaws clamp onto the head of the nail by digging into the wood around the head when you bang it with the slide. Once it clamps under the nail head, you pull sideways using the short arm for leverage. I used them many times for tearing into a structure for repairs.

Walt has 'nailed' it :)

Probably not much, but I really don't know. I see them every once in awhile. I think I have two or so.

Really, it is one of the best nail pullers I have ever used. It will grab a nail and pull it even when the head of the nail breaks off. As you pull against the short lever it tightens the jaws even tighter. Makes for a great gripping tool. It does tear up a small area of wood around the nail though.

works very good for pulling staples on a barb wire fence (wooden posts). No going to town for new staples,
pull the old ones and recycle. Don, the ladies are going to read this and turn them into male adjusters since you posted the link. Lol

Looks like a Selfie Stick from a few years ago.........LOL

Pretty cool, I was going to guess something to do with removing a tire from a rim, but it was already identified as a nail puller. Value is the value you place on it, I usually keep stuff like that. Doesn't take up much room and it can be used in prop's or decorations around the house.

That's is probably true unless.......... The fence posts are "Bodark" (Osage Orange). If the bodark posts age at all, you're lucky to use a new staple once let alone recycle it. Ha! Seasoned bodark gets harder than woodpecker lips! When we cut new posts, we tried to use them within a short time. Green posts were easier on your fingers and staples. Ha!

I remember as a kid growing up in Kansas the "hedge apples" those trees drop. They were a plentiful source of... uh... ammunition, shall we say, for adventures in general mischief making. The wood sure burns hot (like whoa!) and pretty too; assuming you like fireworks. I remember my dad hating the stuff but also, oddly, fashioning a pair of grips out of the stuff for his beloved S&W revolver. Go figure.

Walt is exactly right...it's a nail puller, and his description of it is dead on. I have one that I got from my father, and it still works great.
