What backdrop to buy?

Going to try to get to the camera shop this weekend. Maybe once I experience sticker shock, I'll head to the fabric store instead LOL

Looking to buy my first backdrop. I have the Square Perfect 9' background stand.

Plan to pickup a few clamps at Home Depot. I'm thinking a white background to start with? I'll be shooting the kids and like the white background look.

I've been told if I use fabric, to have a sleeve sewn in for the support rod and maybe have the sides hemmed. What size should I get if I go that route? 10x12 feet?

6x10 too small? http://www.amazon.com/Prism-Backdrops-Muslin-Backdrop-Background/dp/B001C6WUDG

Thanks :)

I have different color backdrops. You can find them very well priced at places like cowboy studios. I like using black but one thing to remember is the cloth ones I used, muslin I think, wrinkle quite bad so invest in a good steamer.

From what i've read, rolls of white paper make the best back drop.

This seems to be most advised -

I totally second that advice. Muslin can get tedious to keep clean and wrinkle-free.
If you go for white, get the paper roll. It's a bit pricey but gives perfect results. A great addition to a white paper backdrop is a large sheet of PVC to place on the floor on top of the backdrop.

I have both black and white....I find if you don't want wrinkles place your subject a few meters from it...

The wrinkles can be an interesting look with coloured lighting shone on it...

I have Savage charcoal gray and white seamless paper and you can re-use them. Just ask the clients to take their shoes off if it is just a head shot or half body portrait.

Question on the white paper-

How do you deal with where the edges meet and is it re-used or a one time use?

I won't intend to shoot past the edge. If I do, cleanup in post won't be a problem. Re-use depends on condition and how it's treated.

Ideally on the bottom you would have a white pvc sheet or similar so that you have a continuous flow of white.
You can use clamps to hold them together.
Secondly its just paper so it will get dirty or may tear and you'll just have to pull out some more :)
