Thank you very much. I try to shot them around 10-15 feet. Past that, I find them too small for the camera to lock a sharp focus on, especially if they are against a busy background. I crop everything to get the comp I want, sometimes quite hard. I probably push further than some would like, but I just do what feels instinctively right to my eye. I only use a flash for macro shots.

Thanks for sharing your technique. Clearly a lot of hard work behind those photos. And the end-products are eye candy!
