This thread is a joy to peruse. Great shots, and this one is particularly gorgeous! Quick question: What kind of distances are you typically at for the hummingbird shots when shooting at 600mm, and do you crop much? Also, do you use flash at all? Thanks!

Thank you very much. I try to shot them around 10-15 feet. Past that, I find them too small for the camera to lock a sharp focus on, especially if they are against a busy background. I crop everything to get the comp I want, sometimes quite hard. I probably push further than some would like, but I just do what feels instinctively right to my eye. I only use a flash for macro shots.
