24 October

Rain on and off with thunder and lightening. Perfect atmosphere to post off my D500 to Nikon Service once again. Only the god's know how long it will take this time. Sending the Tam back tomorrow -- to depressed to do it today.

Sorry to hear your problems, all joking aside i do wonder if the Tamron was not designed to handle the amount of use you give it,that is in no way a defense of Tamron its a criticism of them, hope your up and running soon.

What happened to your D500 now?. Is there a thread where I can follow along?

Just a continuation of the same saga. When I got it back after the first repair, it was apparent that there was something off in the focus works. It did not have the snap speed to focus it had before and lost focus (ala BIF) easier than my 5300. The oddest thing was that the point of focus in the view finder and the actual point of focus in the image review did not match up -- the latter was always just below the former. This was consistent using all my lens. I checked the focus point in ViewNX and there wasn't one. Nikon confirmed the same in the images I sent. Also, the new view finder unit was off. On a static shot, I would lock focus, but the image in the view finder would be blurry (yes, I had the diopter set). When I took the picture and reviewed it, however, the image was a sharp as can be. After half a dozen phone calls, Nikon finally said send it back.

Other than that, it was as good as new.

I had the same thought, but while I take a lot of pictures per day, this one didn't last a month, some the cumulative total spread over a year for a normal shooter would be pretty low. I have treated this one with kid gloves, never jumping far in to out, making sure it was properly seated to the body, etc. I am hoping they will allow me to pay the difference and upgrade to the new version, which uses a different focus system and is supposedly better built. Past that, I don't know what to do.
