I am pretty wiped after the annual Fullerton Beautiful Garden Tour photo shoot today, but managed a few personal shots back at the department while we waited for the stragglers to retrieve their plant purchases

Not going to be much of a guava crop, if the mockingbirds have their way

A newly fletched juvenile getting pointers

I spotted a hooded oriole strutting his stuff in the Tipu

A female landed to watch the show

She digs me, oh yeah, she digs me bad

The babies are growing up fast

 

[wev]

But they still need mom when the tummy starts to rumble

Luckily, there are plenty of alligator lizards to go around

Day of the big (relatively speaking) birds at the arb today. I counted 5 green herons sitting in the trees, striking silly poses, and periodically chasing each other

There was a juvenile black crowned heron was trying to impress a couple of females who were uninterested

 

[wev]

 

[wev]

A big blue had a nice high perch in a cedar

 

[wev]

I saw a mess of crows diving around an old cypress and found a hawk who had been raiding nests from the look of things
