I didn't get a shot of dad, who was jumping back and forth from the big tipu tree and an old blue palm. I couldn't figure what was up, until I spotted a dove's nest nearby. The parents chose well, though and the armed frond edges kept their baby safe

14 March (and not as bad as you feared)

Home from class -- hot, hot, and well overdone. 75° when we started at 8; 92° when we finished at noon. Not as many birds as hoped for, as they are smart enough to stay someplace cool, but a few nice ones. This was the first outing with the new 5300 body and I am pleased with its performance, given the harsh light and deep shadows.
