It is a male hummingbird thing -- I've seen it numerous times. They will sit and fidget, preen a bit, take a few short flights, then do this elaborate stretching display. As soon as it is done, they will fly off and do some serious feeding. They're really quite human. . .
Ha! I don't know about you, but I often see myself in the actions of others. Maybe that's why I like them so much.
That would be a heck of a wing span!

I went on a Audubon bird walk at Santiago Oak Park today, which almost never do. I find them too confining, at least to my way of wandering about and shooting, and today was no exception. There were birds out, but also herds of trail bike riders and people walking noisy dogs. Bah.
