Day 81/365 Helecopter, We went to Utah Valley today to see Grandies. On the way home we went past the National Guard Base where my husband trained while he was in the Guard. He wanted to stop and see what changes they had made. These next few shots are some of the displays that sit just outside the the Base. This base sits right across the road from the new Security Center. The guards were REALLY specific that I could take pictures of the exhibits in front, but not to take pictures of the Security Center, or on the base. They said that they would handcuff me and take my camera. Needless to say, I didn't take any pictures of those things.

Kennecott Copper Mine.jpg
Day 81/365 This is Kennecott Copper Mine, it is the largest open pit copper mine in the world. It is sad that the company tore up the whole mountain to take the copper out of it.

Your military vehicle shots seem to be too dark. The white mountains and blue sky seem to overpower them. And a lot of the detail seems to be lost in the shadows. Maybe try to pull some detail out of the shadows?

Yep, I agree Doug, It was mid day and the light was really harsh. I will work with the shots and see if I can lighten them up a bit. I did shoot them in RAW so it should still have the data that I can work with.

Wendy, is there an reason all your shots seem to be at the same shutter speed & aperture with just the ISO changing? This is maybe why those military shots were not as good as they may have been perhaps?

Vixen you are so correct, I had my camera set in Manual, and only changed the ISO to Auto, then I forgot I had done that. MM keeps telling me that I have to have a list in my mind about checking the settings. He is correct to. Thanks for mentioning that, I have got to get into the habit of checking my settings.

I almost ALWAYS forget something be it WB, or I leave it in 5 shot bracketing and then wonder why the exposure is inconsistant, or forget to turn IS on or off.......there is just SO much to remember. After 2 yrs of intensive camera use I am ALMOST on top of it......just not quire yet :D

You are surely not alone as Vixen stated... I do those things often... Most common are leaving it on bracketing, leaving it on 1.3 crop mode and leaving it on an exposure adjustment.... I have been trying hard to do a quick check when I head out but sometimes spur of moment stabs me! :)

Vixen, That is something that I really have to work on, being consistent. Thanks for the encouragement that I'm not the only one that does this. I need to come up with a mnemonic to help me remember to check all of my settings.

Thanks Vixen and Rocky, I'm glad that I am in good company with my inconsistencies. I certainly respect your photography and glad to know that I can make mistakes with the best of them.
