Weekly Photo Challenge - Rules and Guidelines

I would have like to participate, but this rule alone, prevents me, as I take pictures when they present themselves and there is time available...
Burt, The idea of the weekly Challenge is to "be on the hot seat" for a qualifying photo. It gets me out often times. Participating has vastly improved my ability to see photos (my opinion if course).

Please be sure to use imagination, as an example "parks" can be stretched a lot to include something you come across.

In thinking up ideas I always try pick something that can work for all areas of the world and something that can be created with common gear.

Give it a try it's fun, you quickly find things others like and the goal is to improve your craft.

I believe one of the purposes of the weekly, and monthly challenges is to encourage folks to go out and take photos within certain guidelines. This is often used as a technique in a teaching environment to get people to work outside their comfort zone. This can often help us to try new things, and grow as photographers. Sometimes, you will find something you shot a few days ago fits the category, and that is fine, but the real goal is to get you to try new things, and hopefully have some fun doing it.

I frequently find an image that would be perfect for a weekly challenge, but it wasn't taken within the time frame.

No pun intended, but we need to look at the bigger picture... For some of us, this is a hobby, and we have jobs and commitments that have to be prioritised.. If I was a pensioner or retired, I'm sure I would be able to follow the rules...

Here is the prime example, of what I'm talking about..

But hey, your game, your rules...

Guys, I'm full aware or the possible reasons, behind the rules, but my family does come first..

Perhaps, next year, when I'll be retired, I will be able to do more of what I love to do...

Burt, I hear you. I am one on the Challenge team and I don't get the chance to get out for every challenge. We do it as time and opportunity comes around. I encourage you to do the same.

Yes. I'll look into it next year, when time will be not an issue... (y)

Let's see how creative you can be! Color, B&W, HDR...anything goes except AI images!

DO NOT SHOOT OR POST IMAGES UNTIL WEDNESDAY (new date)
This early announcement of the topic is to give a little think time, before the challenge begins. Photos must be taken and submitted between 00:00 UTC of the start date and 23:59 UTC of the end date.

The Rules

1. Any photo submitted for the Weekly Photo Challenge must be taken using a Nikon Camera! Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by YOU including all parts of composites!

2. If the EXIF does not show using a browser EXIF app, listing the camera and capture date/time below the photo is required. Listing exposure info, lens & focal length is encouraged so others can learn.

3. Photos must be posted in this thread to be considered. Links to photos will not be considered an entry (In other words, no Flikr, Photobucket, or similar links). Also, no AI images.

4. Only one photo entry per member for each week, unless otherwise noted. It is acceptable to delete a post and submit a new entry, replacing the image within a post is not.

5. All regularly active members of Nikonites are allowed to participate, including moderators and administrators.

Voting

During the submission & like periods, please click the Thanks/Like button to vote for your favorite images. You can vote for as many as you want! At the end of the week, you will have the opportunity to vote for the top 3 photos for this challenge!

There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Photo Challenges, unless specifically noted by the site administrator.

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited or straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

Edit: Rule 3 modified - No AI images should be submitted for this challenge. April 28 2026
