Old Farming Tool

Came across this today when digging out a tree stump in my garden. We have found a few old farm implements over the years and this is the latest - just in time for the challenge!

Mined from the earth, shaped by the blacksmith using fire and wind bellows and cooled in water.

Here is my entry "Charcoal Iron Press", which I found yesterday in the morning at 7 am -
1) Coal is set on fire in the box
2) Without AIR there is no FIRE
3) Earth is visible too in the picture.

Those which cannot be found in the pic are : 4) Sky and 5) Water
Took this pic lying flat down on the road

Wow. You are all doing a great job thinking outside the box on this one. Amazing. I may have to put something together.

For this weeks challenge, I climbed to the top of Mount Swansea, we finally had a wind come through and remove the smoke that has been lingering in the area.

Lots of earth, air, water, and fire. You can see the smoke in the distance from some fires that are burning around our valley.

If the judges feel that since I'm not using a Nikon, I can't enter, fair enough I'll accept that.

I'll post my entry in either case.

Earth, wind & fire.

Taken with my new X10, inside my chiminea, which is made of clay, the fire is being fanned by the air being drawn in. The ash is also a component of earth. (I cheated I used paraffin so no wood was present)

Nice pic and nice to see you stuck around mate - im a Brit/Canadian. I know how it feels being out of work and the fact that you have to prioritize. I love to know the ins and outs of things, so i researched the x10 and to be honest with you, i would get one if i had the money to blow - already have two dslr, wife would say no to third camera also. I should apologize in thinking that your choice was a bit silly. But, i now understand the circumstances. You have a real nifty piece of hardware there and what is important, is what you do with it. No need for thousans of pounds worth of equipment to get great photos. Anyhow, stick around and show us more of what that little japanese number can do.

The last few days I lit the chiminea, it was so windy the flames went into a really tight spiral, like a vortex. I was trying to get that today, but the problem was I needed a really fast shutter speed. I didnt want to push ISO too high, for fear of grainy shots (apparently over ISO 800 on this baby and it starts to get bad); I also wanted to keep a reasonable f-stop, but ended up with low light, and the shot was recorded at 1/100 at f2.5, hence the flame is a little out of focus (low depth of field and high speed of flame). In the end none of the vortex shots looked like anything.

There is a really cool little option to set off up to 16 frames at 10 fps, and the camera will store these to memory card, for you to later select the best image. This is what I done with this shot.

Hi All,

My first post... ;)

Here's a pic of a storm at Lake Controe in Texas. In just a few minutes, we went from a very calm and sunny day to a full blown storm, with lots of WIND and WATER all over the place. When my wife saw me go inside the house she never expected me to go out so fast, camera in hand to snap a few pics, until I remembered that my D5100 is NOT weather proof... maybe time to go for a D7000?

The winner is chosen by the moderator who issued the challenge with the help of other moderators if he wants to. Taken into considerations are also the likes received by different entries.
