Re: Weebee's 365 thread

Congrats on the new ride! I love that mama robin picked your place to set up her nest I look forward to seeing them hatch :)

Thank you, I'm hoping the eggs hatch as well. We've been using the back door as much as possible so we're not disturbing her. The front door is only a few feet from her nest.

I wouldn't suggest a feeder as it would attract other birds and the robin may not like it,just a little food out same time every day until l its feeding young then any time you can be there for pictures.

Robins are very social birds, and ground feeders (I can't recall ever seeing one on a feeder). They'll occasionally go for seed but are much more into worms, bugs and grubs. Having feeders is a plus because small birds tend to knock seed to the ground where the Robins, and Doves, Cowbirds, Cardinals, RW Blackbirds, etc., will come to eat it. We spread as much seed on the ground as we put in feeders. Makes for a bare patch, but that's a trade we'll take.

Its the UK USA divide :D for ours it would possibly be a few meal worms or some propriety soft bill mix in a small dish, looking at the pictures i think ours must be a fair bit smaller.

The robins here are more of a ground feeder. Maybe I'll put some seed on the ground in front of the porch and see what happens.

I imagine she'll do just fine getting her own worms but having a bird bath or something would be a good idea. Birds come off the nest to eat, drink and go to the bathroom and the eggs actually need that bit of cooling time for proper incubation. Not stressing her is probably the most helpful thing you can do :)

Day 131. May 11, 2014

First serious test with my pro-optic 2x converter. Out of 20 shots I had one keeper. At 600mm a mono pod doesn't really help. I'll need to carry my tripod. It was a very sunny day, so I could autofocus up to 450mm. After that it was manual.
