weather resistant

 exactly how weather resistant is the D7000?
And whats the point if your lens isn't? ie 18-200 VR II.
What if you are to use an older strictly manual lens IE 50 mm?
to what extent can the camera get wet?

Just curious.
Cheers!

As Nikon states in the owners manual, it does not mean "waterproof". If you want to know if any of your lenses are weather sealed, i would suggest doing some research online or calling Nikon to ask.

I have used mine in the rain (4 different occasions) with both my kit lens and 55-300mm. The exposure to the rain was no more than 10 to 15 minutes. I just wiped it off good and never had a problem. I wouldn't leave it in a downpour without a sleeve on it, nor would I submerge it. It's nice to know that when I want to catch some rainy photos or lightening or get caught in the rain my camera will still be ok. .....if it doesn't get struck by lightening.

Easy: Your camera can safely get wet, but not *that* wet.

Think of the weather sealing on your camera like you would a life preserver on a boat: You know the life preserver is there, do you really need to test its efficacy?

yes, common sense, drop it in water, and it will be ruined, and while the camera is weather sealed, most lens are not, and will easily get water inside, or often fog up, and when the fog dries, you get water spots.

If it looks like rain I take a towel to drape over the camera & lens...Waterproof for a fair while like this..

My standard is always to bring a disposable raincoat in my bag. In Singapore, it rains 50% of the year and it can be sunny then rain the next minute. Alternatively bring along a small plastic bag that can hold your camera. Never try to test it under the rain.

^This. I have an OpTech weather 'bag' for just such an eventuality. I've also shot in a hurricane for about an hour, but I didn't have the weather bag for that. I just want to know that I'm good if in case some crazy weather pops off while I'm unprepared otherwise. The weather sleeve ALWAYS stays in my bag, weather I'm using it for my camera gear or other things.
