Watermark Multiple Images

Is it possible in Lightroom 4 to watermark different images being exported in a batch, at different positions?
Example = Image 1 to have watermark at top left & Image 2 at bottom right etc..?
How does everyone get around this? Or do you just leave a default like bottom right for all images?

Thanks!

Re: Watermatch Multiple Images

You can do multiple images in a batch, but it must be the same watermark. No getting around it unless you come up with a standard watermark.

I've always done bottom right or bottom left depending on the subject and where it will be less distracting. But I'm working on a fixed watermark in anticipation of building my own commercial website some time this year and hope to configure it so that it will look best in the same spot on every image.

Thanks Marcel.

Yes and this is quite frustrating cos though almost all photos look alright with the watermarks either at the bottom right or left, not all do..
And just for these few, you would have to do them manually.

Is there no other watermarking program that can do this?

Lightroom actually allows you to preview how the watermark looks for each image, but doesn't allow you to save for each image.. shame

You can have as many different watermarks as you want, I have 7 or 8 different ones. In "edit watermarks" under the "edit" menu you can save every change you make as a new watermark. After you're done editing your new WM use the pull-down menu and select "save current settings as a new Preset.." and then when you're exporting your image there's another pulldown menu where you can select the watermark you want to use.

Right. That works good for a single image.
Now how would you go about watermarking 10 files that you are about to export, with each image having the watermark in different corners?
I don't think that is possible in LR

I would just use the pull down menu in the export window to change up the watermarks on the individual exported images. Would this not work or do you have to do the lot as a batch and can't export individually?

Just save your different watermarks as "left-small" or "right-Big" and then when you export the 10 different files you can alternate between the various watermarks and know which is which. Or am I missing the problem?

You can always get creative. In addition to applying star ratings Lightroom allows you to set and filter on a color label. It's an extra step during editing, but if you use a color label to indicate watermark position you can filter at the end of your editing and do on export for each position without having to choose photo by photo. At some point, even with a watermarking program, you're going to have to tell it where to put the mark. So, this is 2 additional steps for each watermark position (1 to filter and 1 to export).

@ Dave

Yes, i think you missing the point.
I understand that we can save each watermark based on fonts, positioning etc and that each can be pulled out from the drop down menu while exporting.
This rule applies if you are exporting a single image or a bunch of images where you choose the preset watermark for ALL the images.
Now while i am exporting say, 100 images, if for 50 you need the WM at bottom right, for 15 in the top left & so on... it just wouldn't work, cos there is no option for choosing the position for each image while exporting in a batch.

@ Jake

Yes, that's what i have currently adopted, though it is quite crude and you can not get a preview of the watermark for each image.
You know for some images the size may need to be smaller.... etc :(
I can't believe that Adobe has never heard this request from anyone or it may just not be possible to implement

Oh, I see now. I guess large batch exporting with varying watermarks isn't something people do very often. If I were doing this, I would gather together all the images that have the same watermark and say "export with previous" and then alternate to the next watermark spot. But again, I seldom export more than a few files at a time so I guess it doesn't really apply to me.

I used to have different watermarks for portrait and landscape, color and B&W, with white, grey and other shaded variations. Then I started thinking, "Holy crap, this is getting stupid!!" The idea is to protect your image rights while allowing it to be displayed. So I now have a couple basic ones that work just fine at the bottom left and right, regardless of orientation, that mark them but also be readily cropped out without impacting the image too badly (oh well). And I have a couple that I use for proofs that are more intrusive.

I've realized that anything I post here is to share with the world, get some constructive feeback and maybe make some contacts to sell something if I'm lucky. Like anything on the internet it's bound to get misappropriated and used without my permission. Sucks, but c'est la vie. As I move into any commercial venture it will get more complicated, and I need to decide how best to display work and also protect it. Just like everyone else. LOL In either case, I'm learning that I'd rather just get a mark on there in less time and not worry about how long it takes to put it on. More time for other stuff.

I agree, Jake. I think of the images we post here as I would a business card and that's why I put my website address on the image instead of my name. That way I can, in theory, benefit from any misappropriation that may occur. Granted, my watermark can easily be cropped off but I'd rather keep my images aesthetically pleasing with my watermark near the bottom rather than obscuring the image with something plastered across the center portion.

I just put mine in the bottom right all the time......no muss, no fuss. I have enough work to do without worrying too much about the watermark. Besides, it's in the EXIF data anyway.

I use TSR Watermark Image software.

Like a few have said, make a few presets(bl, br, tl, tr) bottm-left, bottom - right, etc... When exporting choose only the photos that you want bottom-left set the bl preset and export. I have a folder on the desktop that is labeled export. Then go back and choose other photos with a different preset and export. That's how I do it.
