Under normal circumstances, humans and bears have a certain uneasiness about one another. Unfortunately, when a carnivore as powerful as a bear crosses that line and attacks and eats a human being, it puts all other human beings in jeopardy. The "Man eater" no longer has that fear of man and will view all other humans as food.

Grizzlies have NEVER feared man.

I think this bear believed he was being stalked by a paparazzi. I'll bet this was Justin Bearber! :devilish: :stupid:

I think bears kill more photographers than any other animal (at least in North America) or at least it seems that way if you look down the list at bear attacks. There are several incidents just like the one in this thread. I would say this particular bear was gorging himself getting ready for winter. I believe now is about the time they start doing the fattening themselves up thing. People are so dumbed down by tv nowadays they think it is Mutual of Ohama or they think they are Steve Irwin or somebody (no wait he got killed not respecting nature too didn't he?)

Hey,,,,, I didn't intend to stir up anything up. :)

About a year ago a guy got killed and eaten by a sow Grizzly and her 3 cubs about a 100 miles from here. The sow was killed and the 3 cubs were sent to a zoo. The authorities blamed a photographer in that deal as well. They said a photographer was baiting bears near a popular tourist camp ground near Cooke City, Mt and I thought -- Brilliant! Using tourists to bait bears..

Just joking :)

Now if you all don't think that we don't know how to have fun around here, then read this story. ;)

Its a great thread KW, you aint stirring it up. Its healthy to have opinions on stuff :)

I think as photographers, mostly anyways, as i cant speak for all snappers, that we respect nature more than the average Joe in the street. WE shoot beauty, whether we see it in nature or architecture or landscapes.

And if we see beauty in nature, which of course all animals are beauty in nature, why the hell anyone would want to blast that beauty into orbit.

I would not go as far as saying that photographers appreciate beauty more than some guy that tries to load film in a new DSLR. ;)
But we have upset the balance in many areas and hunting controls the decline of species.
Example: http://billingsgazette.com/news/sta...cle_c1538c6e-fb8b-57c8-b04c-67844a69254e.html

A lion is a lion, a bear is bear and meat is meat to them.
Did this cat need to die? I'm not going to wait for a child to be taken as cat food before making that decision.

When is said the average joe in the street, i mean someone who has no interest in photography or beauty, so that counts for a heck of a lot of people.

The thing is, these people are putting themselves in the situation. And mostly, its the animals that come off worst.

I wonder how far it'll go before someone says enough ? When there are no big animals left ? It'll be no use mourning the loss of the great Wilderness when there's nothing left to mourn over.
We are without doubt ever more encroaching on their habitat, pushing them further and further till they got nothing.
