To Quote Jim Morrison of The Doors - Waiting for the sun, waiting for the sun, waiting for the sun, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting. Waiting for you to - come along.

This photo was taken (again) on my recent Grand Canyon trip. I went back out in the afternoon to Lipan Point to capture the afternoon shadows and sunset and perched myself quite a ways away from the other tourists who were there for the same purpose as I was. It occurred to me that a photo of the people taking photos would be interesting.

This photo is an HDR made with 3 shots at +/- 2 EV. I shot at the widest setting of my kit lens at 18mm. I would have liked a little more width but that is all I had. I can find no fault with the photo but I think I have already demonstrated that I do not yet have an eye for this sort of thing, so... :)

Thanks Fred, this is a tricky one. There are 3 horizontal-ish angles (viewing area, closer canyon wall, far horizon)... Which to choose - I just made them all a little wrong. :)

In terms of shooting angles, there are only so many ways that you can safely "perch" at the Grand Canyon, and sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

Although I agree with Fred that it would have been nice to not have that cliff align with the horizon (if only you had been 6 inches taller !!! lol), overall I like this shot. You have nice lighting, a variety of textures, and the group of people really emphasize the vastness and majesty of the Grand Canyon, and provide a "story" and good center of interest . . . the glimmer of the sun that is just out of sight of the photo and all the people looking at it, provide a sense of mystery.

I would rate this an 11 out of 12. IMHO

Ok, I understand now - the middle cliff is at the same height as the horizon. I was thinking it was a level this clif or the horizon issue. I get it. Yes, now that you guys have pointed it out I see the problem. Wow - you guys are good!!!

stmv, I think I will try to fix this later when I get home... I have been wanting to experiment more in PS and this would be a good exercise.
