I know a lot of people love polarizers, but outside of removing glare from water I don't know that I've ever bothered to use them. For me the hood is a more important piece of equipment.
I believe in lens hoods too. The hood that came with my 55-300 is a very poor quality so I have been using a screw on rubber one.

Thanks for the discussion on using the lens hood. I also put mine on the lens backward so that I can store it with the correct lens. If I don't do that, I would loose it. I too get lens flair and hadn't thought of using the hood to prevent it. See I learn something new every day on this forum.

Dunno about where you live, but over here with blue blue skies, greenest of green grass and reddest of red sand in the desert etc I just would NEVER be without one (bit like your lens hood :D ), and I'd never shoot a sunset without one either. They just bring out the colour :D

OK...so moving on, I had another go at reflections today. So hard to get just right. It's a MUST to have spotless glass and spoons!! I failed on that one and had to do some spot removals big time

I just tried a polarizer today and I'm pretty sold to the idea :) I almost never use lens hood either, actually.

Its a totally beautiful image of the lake!

Agreed. I very rarely shoot outdoors without a CPL. They give a certain "pop" to photos that I just don't seem to get any other way. I agree a lens hood is all but essential as well but they're a snap to twist on and off so I've never really thought about them much, filter in place or no.

126/365......roadside run-off

Beauty everywhere, even where a creek crosses the road and the edge of the road is all washed out from floodwater

I have to admit that I've always managed to get my colors as I want in post without having to use one, but after making this post I did some digging around to find out what the fuss is all about and have committed to throw one on next time I'm out and about.

Vixen I just see attachments but no photos?? I had it happen to me yesterday when posting IDK why.

Don't forget CPL for rainbows :) I don't always use a CPL but I do love them for many things so when I go out with a lens I bring the Cpl as well. I almost always have a hood on my lenses when I'm outdoors

Not sure what the problem is with attaching the photos. It was there yesterday (for me at least) and if I go into ''ëdit post" the pic shows up there also. Confusing....... anyway, I have reattached it, so hope it is now there again.

Yes!! Always CPL for rainbows. To be honest I rarely take the CPL off my lens. I take it off for panos and indoors but all other times I leave it on :D

128/365......

Been wanting a fairly windy day so I could try some long exposure shots in the canefields again. So a bit of a revisit to day 29.
I tried cloning out an object. Not perfect, but at least I tried :D

This is my original shot. OK....it's pretty easy to spot where I took the pole & powerlines out, but practice, practice, practice......I'll get there :D

I think that you did a very good job of cloning out the power lines and pole. Good Job.
