Thanks Wendy but honest, I take LOTS of totally crap shots as well. You only get to see the best ;)

From what I get that is what most photographers do, certainly in wildlife and macro. Whatever bad shots you take, we can be grateful that you share the good ones. Thanks.

I really like seeing the best of your work. I have already had my fair share of crap shots, now it's time I can start getting some good ones. Following your thread gives me many ideas. Thanks for that.
I have a question for you, How did you get the liquid in the wine glasses to tilt when the glasses were lined up? THAT is a FABULOUS shot.

What impresses me is your imagination/vision.

I can't claim any imagination with some of these shots. I have a book (Magbook) called "50 Photo Projects" that shows you how to do a variety of indoor & outdoor shots. I also look at youtube tutorial vids, and scour the net for images that I try to copy ;)

It was a project from the book "50 Photo Projects" but of course they show you HOW but putting it into practice is a whole other thing. Basically you tape the glasses down to a board then tilt the board and put water in the glasses so they are at the same level, then prop one end of the board up. Then add food colouring or whatever for the colour.

I DID take a photo of my setup which of course is nowhere near as professional as in the book :D

Notice my use of stepladder & ironing board for a place to put the flash units. I got the lighting wrong. I think maybe from above would have been better but ATM I have nothing to hold flash units above, so had to make do

Oh look!! there's the book :D

That book sounds interesting, I really liked the resulting photo and I struggle with ideas. Need to look for it.

Thanks soooo much Vixen, that was very helpful. I am going to go get the book this weekend. I hope that you don't mind if I try to duplicate the idea. I really like your work. Thanks friend.

Why should I mind? I've only copied someone elses idea after all :D I hope you can nail the lighting better than me. See if you can light from above maybe.

86/365....after the rain......a long exposure HDR. We've had 250+mm rain in the last 24hrs and the river was up and over roads in a few places. The owners of this property were out rescuing their very young foal this morning. All was good with the horses thankfully but their horse float was submerged in there somewhere

Man, I need to get a good ND filter now. :D

That shot was taken with just my polariser on. It's deep shade at that spot, so I can get 4secs exp which is enough to show the water nicely. I did take some with my ND400 on though and I'll post some later when I've finished playing with them.

My New Years Resolution was to understand layers, layer masking etc and have it licked by the end of the year. I've had to use layers for a few of these shots so I feel that I am beginning to understand how they work.

So...it's not perfect. It took ages, but it involved layers
