Well, the EV lights up (highlighted in yellow) but when the command dial is turned it either adjusts the shutter speed or metering) I know when I got there before to change it, it was a real journey....I'll find it eventually. The manual says nothing about sync speed, it's supposed to be automatic TTL with this camera.....or so I was told.

Have not found that EV setting yet...I know before when I found it I couldn't believe it was buried that deep in the menus and now I can't find it. I want to take a picture of the LCD and see why there is a setting that seems completely out of whack. See the shutter speed and f stop....what is that underneath?

Carefull... if he is in M that will adjust aperture. Best to do this from the settings screen via the "i" button.

True! And now that I think about it, exposure comp isn't even registered in manual mode is it? Rendering him trying to change it a moot point if he's shooting in manual.

As @mikew showed, you are close. Very many of my macro shots come out dark, so much so that I cannot see them on the camera's lcd. As with most captures, it will require some post processing to get it where you like it.

The starting point (triangle settings) that Scott Murray suggested is going to be pretty close and you shouldn't have to go very far from any of those. Of course this statement is given without ever seeing a flash ring and/or light ring in person. I have tried a hotshoe mounted flash and was not totally satisfied there, the truth is in my opinion, the popup works very well with the correct diffuser setup. The below image is with the popup and home rigged diffuser.

In 'M' mode, the EC setting would affect the iso if auto-iso is on. If it is off, the setting would still be displayed, but have no effect.
