Vivitar 24mm 1:2 Auto-wide angle Adapter question

I bought a Vivitar 24mm 1:2 auto-wide angle lens on craigslist for my Nikon D750. I then bought a Fotodiox lens adapter for it on Amazon. The adapter arrived today but I cannot seem to get it to attach to the lens. Both look to be in excellent condition and I've read the review about this adapter several times and it has been used to adapt Vivitar lens's to work with newer Nikon camera's. But I cannot get it to work? Any advice? I have very carefully tried to attach it to the lens. I have tried just screwing it on and then also while holding the release button and gently turning trying to get the two to line up. I included pics below of both products. The adapter says "OM-NIK pro" on it.

Are you sure it's not an adapter for a micro four thirds body (Nikon J1)? I read the description and its vague when it comes to specific models. The listing on Amazon does mention that some lenses have a shield that protrudes from the rear and will not allow the lens to mount. But it specified that it was "select 35mm Olympus Zuiko OM lenses."

If that's the case, you may need to remove the lens mount and file it down to spec. I had to do it on an older Nikkor P series lens that i filed down to be able to mount it on my D7100. A machine shop should be able to throw it into a lathe so that it looks like it was manufactured that way.
