Vintage Packaging Brings A Smile

Although my Dad passed away over a decade ago, I still depend on the inventory of odd stuff he left in his home shop. My Dad was quite skilled at anything involving home repair or improvement, so I never know what I might find there. To wit, check out this package of hanger strap which I needed. I'll bet it's 50 years old and the package has that wonderful 50s/60s appearance that always brings a smile to my face. Although after spending several hours in the cold, dank crawlspace under my house, I hardly looked as euphoric as the man on the package. :D

Same here. Its nearly 40 years and I still find and make use of the remaining few bits of my dad's workshop inventory. I have seen that happy man logo before. I think it was on some toilet bowl gaskets and pipe wrap insulation. Anyone that has replaced a toilet or crawled under a house to wrap pipes can appreciate the irony of the happy man logo.

I found this on my shelf....

Here's a package from a time when men were men and light bulbs were light bulbs. From Chicago's Commonwealth Edison.

And from the era when most drug stores had tube testing machines and sold tubes, comes this simplified package. There's even a tube inside.

Interesting too that today's packaging is often dominated by warnings and regulatory information, whereas a generation ago buyers succeeded with common sense. The price stickers on old packages are also a source of amusement!
